Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad has declined to comment on the recovery of the body of former Air Force officer K Tahsif Souri, 28, from the Turag River in Dhaka, saying he will speak only after a preliminary investigation and the post-mortem examination.

He made the remarks around 12:30 pm on Thursday at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda, Charghat Upazila of Rajshahi, while responding to questions from journalists.

The minister spoke to reporters after attending the concluding parade of the basic training course for the 27th Probationary Sergeant batch and the 43rd Cadet Sub-Inspector batch, held earlier in the morning on the academy’s parade ground.

When asked whether Tahsif’s death had any connection to the release of a video showing the departure of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the country, the home minister said: “I do not want to say anything about this matter now. A preliminary investigation must be conducted, and the autopsy of the body is underway. We will speak after knowing all the facts.”
