Inspector Firoz Ahmed of the Tongi River Police Outpost has said that the young woman named Disha was arrested in an operation on Saturday night (October 31). From midnight the same day, investigators began questioning Dwip, who is in four days of police remand.

Earlier on Saturday, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Hasibullah Pias granted four days of remand for Dwip. Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsud Doha Sumon said police had sought seven days of remand for a proper investigation, but the court approved four days.

Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Mamun of the Dhaka region of the River Police said preliminary evidence has been found linking Dwip, a friend of Tahsif Souri, to his death. Dwip is being interrogated in detail during the remand. However, full details cannot be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the investigation.

An investigation-related police officer said CCTV footage analysis showed that Dwip was with Tahsif from 6:30 pm on Tuesday (the day of the incident) until 1:30 am. Footage and confidential information confirmed that Dwip took Tahsif to the Mazar Basti area in Tongi. Tahsif did not return from there; Deep came back alone. Major inconsistencies were also found in Dwip’s statement during initial questioning, further intensifying suspicion.

Earlier, late on Thursday night, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) detained Dwip from a house on Babar Road in Mohammadpur in the capital. Later, on Friday night, when Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a case at Uttarkhan Police Station against unknown persons, Dwip was shown as arrested. Although a murder case was registered at the police station, the father did not directly accuse anyone in the written complaint and instead demanded that the true cause of death be uncovered.

Twenty-eight-year-old Tahsif went missing from his home in Uttara on Tuesday evening. The next day, Wednesday afternoon, River Police recovered his body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Tongi.

Speaking to journalists at his home in Uttara, Tahsif’s father Enayetul Karim said Dwip used to visit their house frequently. However, there are major contradictions in the information he gave after the incident. Enayetul Karim said: “Dwip has confessed to the PBI that they went to Tongi. But he told me that he dropped Tahsif off at the premises of our house. This has created a major suspicion. I don’t know what actually happened or who is involved behind it.” He demanded that the true facts be revealed through a quick and impartial investigation.
