At least seven Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia on Saturday (7 November).
The crash occurred on the highway while the victims were travelling from Medina to Jeddah, according to officials of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah.
Consulate officials said the group was travelling in a single vehicle when the driver lost control, leading to the fatal accident. All seven people died at the scene.
The deceased were all associated with Al Abeer Cold Store Trading Company. Their families are from Chakaria Upazila in Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh.
Company Marketing Manager Nuruzzaman identified the victims as company storekeeper Ziaur Rahman, his two sons and one daughter; the wife of company forklift driver Ilyas; and Alamshah, a storekeeper working in Mecca, along with his one-month-old daughter.
Saudi police and rescue teams reached the site quickly, recovered the bodies, and transferred them to the morgue of a local hospital.
Consulate sources said the embassy will provide all necessary assistance to complete legal formalities and repatriate the bodies to Bangladesh as soon as possible.
