The suspension period for all flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dhaka to Dammam and from Dhaka to Riyadh has been extended until November 4 (according to Bangladesh time and date).

On Sunday (October 25), a press release from Biman Bangladesh Airlines stated that the decision was made in the interest of passenger safety in view of the ongoing airport attacks in Saudi Arabia.

The notice said that, in case of urgent need, passengers can travel to Saudi Arabia and return to Bangladesh using Jeddah and Medina International Airports. Considering passenger demand, two flights per day have been operated on the Dhaka–Jeddah route since October 16 (Bangladesh time and date). This service will continue until November 4. On the other hand, regular flights are being operated on the Dhaka–Medina route using Boeing 787 aircraft.

Updated information on further decisions and flight schedules for the mentioned flights will be provided by the Biman Bangladesh Airlines authorities in due course. Passengers are requested to contact the nearest Biman Bangladesh Airlines sales centre for necessary information related to tickets and travel.

This is consistent with the Bangladesh government’s public stance. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Houthi (Iran-backed Shia militia) attacks on Saudi civilian infrastructure, including airports, expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, and called for an end to the attacks.

Bangladesh has also joined a Saudi-led maritime defense coalition amid related regional tensions. English-language reports on the same Biman announcement explicitly link the flight suspensions to the Houthi attacks.
